Dry Needling / IMS
Dry Needling is done by our Chiropractors and Physical Therapists. The two most common types of dry needling used by these practitioners at our clinic are:
IMS (Intra-Muscular Stimulation): This type of acupuncture relies on the palpation of trigger points in muscular tissues. Using an acupuncture needle, the therapist releases tension from muscles by eliciting a twitch response from a dysfunctional muscle. This controlled twitch response allows the regulatory nerve endings in the muscle, called muscle spindles, to reset. Which in turn improves the flexability and strength of contraction in the affected tissue. Using this treatment in combination with manual therapy interventions is a very effective mthod for improving pain control and facilitating active rehabilitation.
Contemporary Medical Acupuncture: This is a precise peripheral nerve stimulation technique that is used to put the body's natural mechanism of healing into action.
The scientific benefits of contemporary medical acupuncture include:
- Pain relief
- Inflammation reduction
- Improved blood flow
- Improved nerve conduction
- Improved range of motion.
