Michael Hoiles

Chiropractor

Calgary Chiropractor Helping Active People Recover from Injury, Move Better, and Stay Active.

Combining hands-on treatment, rehabilitative exercise, and evidence-informed care to help you get back to the activities you enjoy.

After more than 15 years in practice, I've learned that most people don't simply want pain relief—they want to get back to doing the things they enjoy.

Whether that's exercising, golfing, running, working, hiking, or keeping up with their family, my goal is to identify the factors contributing to symptoms and develop a plan that helps people recover, move better, and stay active.

My approach combines hands-on treatment, rehabilitation exercise, movement assessment, and patient education to help people achieve lasting results rather than relying solely on passive treatment.

What To Expect

Your first visit is designed to help us understand not only what is causing your symptoms, but also why the problem developed in the first place. Every person, injury, and recovery journey is different, which is why treatment recommendations are tailored to your specific condition, goals, and lifestyle.

Initial appointments are approximately 45 minutes and may include:

  • A thorough health history and discussion of your symptoms

  • A physical examination to identify the underlying cause of your condition

  • Assessment of movement patterns, mobility, strength, and function

  • Evaluation of lifestyle, work, sport, or exercise habits that may be contributing to your symptoms

  • Discussion of previous injuries or factors that may be slowing recovery

  • An explanation of your diagnosis and the factors contributing to your pain or injury

  • Your first treatment often includes chiropractic adjustments, soft tissue therapy, or other hands-on treatment techniques

  • Individualized home exercises, stretches, or self-management strategies

  • A discussion of your prognosis and expected recovery timeline

  • Recommendations regarding activity modification, exercise, work, or sport participation

If diagnostic imaging or referral to another healthcare professional is appropriate, this will also be discussed during your visit.

Reducing pain is often the first step, but long-term success typically involves understanding your condition, addressing the factors contributing to your symptoms, and developing a treatment plan that helps you return to the activities you enjoy.

Because every patient responds differently to treatment, your care plan will be individualized based on your symptoms, goals, activity level, and response to care.

My Approach

I believe successful treatment should focus on more than simply reducing pain.

My goal is to:

  • Identify the factors contributing to your symptoms

  • Improve movement and function

  • Build strength and resilience

  • Help prevent future flare-ups

  • Keep you active throughout recovery whenever possible

Treatment may include:

  • Chiropractic Adjustments

Gentle joint mobilization and chiropractic adjustments can help improve  movement, reduce stiffness, and restore normal joint function.

  • Soft Tissue Therapy

Hands-on treatment designed to reduce muscle tension, improve mobility,  and support the recovery process.

  • Active Release Techniques (ART)

A movement-based soft tissue treatment that targets muscles, tendons,  ligaments, and fascia that may be contributing to pain or movement  restrictions.

  • Graston / FAKTR

Instrument-assisted soft tissue therapy used to address scar tissue,  movement restrictions, and chronic soft tissue injuries.

  • Shockwave Therapy

A non-invasive treatment that uses acoustic pressure waves to stimulate  healing and reduce pain in certain chronic tendon and soft tissue  conditions. Commonly used for conditions such as plantar fasciitis, tennis  elbow, Achilles tendinopathy, and other chronic tendon injuries.

  • Exercise Rehabilitation and Activity Modification

Individualized exercises designed to improve strength, mobility, stability, and  long-term resilience.

  • Flexion Distraction / Manual Spinal Decompression

A specialized manual therapy technique that applies controlled spinal traction and  movement to improve joint mobility and reduce mechanical stress on spinal structures.

The specific combination of treatments used will depend on your condition, goals, activity level, and response to care.

Conditions Not Improving?

Whether you've recently been injured or have been dealing with symptoms for months—or even years—many musculoskeletal conditions respond well to a structured treatment and rehabilitation plan. An assessment can help identify the factors contributing to your symptoms and determine the most appropriate next steps.

Ready to Get Back to Doing What You Enjoy?

Whether you're dealing with a recent injury, recurring pain, or a condition that simply isn't improving the way you'd hoped, the first step is understanding what's contributing to the problem.

My goal is to help you move better, recover from injury, and stay active through a combination of hands-on treatment, rehabilitation exercise, and individualized care.

If you're ready to take the next step, I'd be happy to help.
